Home + Change
Introduction
Home + Change. A home is not static; it evolves with its inhabitants. This includes changes like moving into a new home, be it a house or an apartment, and alterations within a household such as divorce, children growing up and eventually moving out, and welcoming new partners. A sequence of endless changes.
Severe illness led to rapid changes in my life. Your perception of home alters dramatically from one day to the next. The story below describes how my home transformed in response to the changes in me and my body after a bicycle accident, leading to post-concussion syndrome (PCS). From a lively home bustling with people – sons living at home and their friends visiting, work-related meetings, and most of my time spent outside my home, at work surrounded by colleagues – my home changed into a quiet, empty space. The everyday sounds of the house, like noises from pipes and installations, became overwhelming. What then defines a home?
