The LIKA Bracelet – A tool for LIKA (;equality) education in Lågstadiet
Figure 1. The LIKA Bracelet prototype on wrist
The LIKA bracelet is a co-creative outcome of my individual design project were I as a designer explored bullying as a socially complex group-phenomenon, investigated bullying as an issue amongst children in Lågstadiet (; 7-10 year old children in Swedish compulsory schools) and collaborated with fourth-year teacher students in aim of facilitating sustainable change in the educational system.
Figure 2. The LIKA Bracelet design concept
As a change agent, the LIKA bracelet aims to work as an educational tool and a “remember by wearing” artefact that focuses on the fundamental values of intersectionality that compulsory school’s Likabehandlingsplan (; equal treatment plan) should cover.
The purpose of this tool is to prevent bullying by improving the implementation of the Likabehandlingsplan in children’s education. As a tool, The LIKA Bracelet emphasizes with the Likabehandlingsplan´s complexity in relation to the teacher’s mission of educating children about fundamental values in regard of equal treatment.
Figure 3. Example of how the LIKA bracelet intends to be implemented through themed focus weeks
The intention with the design of the LIKA bracelet as a tool is for the design to be part of a learning experience as a ‘bracelet in the making’ that materializes an educational journey that focuses on equal treatment through the categories in which the LIKA bracelet involves.
After the full learning experience, The LIKA bracelet intends to become a remember-by-wearing agent and act as a communicative tool by its symbolic value.
