Subjugation Domination Assimilation – Colonial Legacies and The Propagation of Imperial Indoctrination in The Philippines
The Philippines has been deeply imprinted by its colonial legacies, and left a profound mark in its culture, tradition and the development of its politics both from the institutional and international perspectives.
This project was conducted through a three-week fieldwork in the Philippines, through collaborations with organisations and education institutions. In these fieldwork I collected artifacts representing colonial legacies. Artefacts as relics, as consolidation and bearers of colonial and imperial ideologies, and as symbols of oppression and the continuing westernization of the Philippine society. These artifacts represents everyday affairs, they are significant yet they have become unconscious habits. Their very meanings submerged into hegemonic ideologies and the marginalization of the culture of the ‘other’. These artifacts represents how the past is reflected in the present.
