Snålandsstolen
The furniture industry is struggling with how to handle their waste. In Småland, there are several companies producing a large amount of excessive materials that are not being used. In other words, more resources are taken from nature than is needed. This is not sustainable production since it has a negative impact on the environment and does not benefit the furniture industry financially.
This project aims to encourage the furniture industry to work according to the theories of industrial symbiosis and circular economy in order to minimize and make use of their waste.
This chair is made of waste material from two local furniture companies and acts as an example of how companies could cooperate in order to reduce waste. The materials used are wood from Strömslunds Snickerifabrik AB and leather from Swedese. It is fully made of materials that otherwise would go to waste.
“Snålandsstolen” is an encouragement to start being snål with material resources and a tribute to the characteristic mindset of smålänningar. To be snål is not a bad quality, it is rather a way of making use of the materials we already have. To be snål is a more sustainable way of living.
