Localisation through education – Co-designing in the local community of Älmhult
The local community of Älmhult has in recent years changed dramatically because of growth in population and cultures. The community in which international and local do not mingle enough, has split. Instead of using these possibilities to learn from each other, they live in mostly separate communities. This co-design project has built a network of local initiators and teachers to build a sustainable future within this community. Education is used as tool to stimulate this change. Using the students as tool to build a common identity.
Presented at the Konsthall is the first project created through this network. The event stimulates the community to interact through the creation of an installation where all can sit together to enjoy the space, whilst also taking an active role in making that place.
How can a designer lead a co-design project with teachers and local initiators to generate building stronger community through the localisation of education within a local community that also maintains global perspective, such as Älmhult?
