Droppings on Dimes – Imagining a world where value is priceless
Droppings on Dimes is a short experimental film made by a combination of frame by frame animation and digital film. It is an investigation and reflection on the state of things and a catalyst for imagining alternative systems of value.
We live in a society with ever increasing cost of living and unemployment. Almost everything we do is measured in monetary terms and values. With 1% of the world controlling almost 50% of the world’s “wealth” while the rest have no choice but to keep paying the rich for rent, food and clothes, I investigated the following:

“How can we support imaginations of a world where value is priceless?”
It isn’t easy to imagine living in a world where you don’t have to pay rent when you are doing so every month. The debilitating oppressive power structures and systems already in place chains us to reality. Moving images allows us to escape into a space free from these power structures which enables a means of starting to reimagine these systems and facilitate reflection on class and power structure in the society we live in. I find developing these reflections and class consciousness to be extremely important and especially relevant today with the state of things and the changing world order.
The short film followed by a discussion sparked imagination and discussions on the topic of resource distribution and critical reflections on real value vs symbolic monetary value.
Curious about alternative resource systems?
