Changing the Aesthetic Stigma of Walker – Disability and design
In today’s society, walkers are the most common walking aid prescribed by the Swedish council, and 4% of the Swedish population has a walker prescribed to them. The main function of the walker is to enable safe environment, and to improve the user’s independence. The ambition with the project would be to challenge the stigma around walkers by changing the aesthetics, by assigning new visual expression, and allowing personal costumization. By providing a sticker kit that could be changed based on the users wishes the project challenges the existing stigma around the walker.
