Traces are marks, objects, or other indications of the existence or passing of something. Some traces are temporal such as plant matter, whereas others have long lasting impacts on our surroundings, environment, and future generations. In many cases, these traces are considered waste. In this exhibition we explore traces of anthropogenic overconsumption through speculation and critical visual information. The projects in this space aim to expose and inform on critical topics which are often invisible, or which we perhaps choose to ignore.

In the creation of these pieces, we were presented with questions of global proportions which we have attempted to unravel: What are the controversies and challenges within waste matters in our current global society? How can we as visual communicators explore these unusable/usable materials in an inventive and creative manner? Which materialities exist within waste and how has these changed over time? What are the different temporalities? What journeys does different waste material take us on?
These projects are the sensorial and interactive results of our theoretical findings in a designerly and norm-critical manner. We invite you to engage in the art pieces and join in the dialogue of waste created by third year students from the Visual Communication +Change Programme at Linnaeus University, Kalmar.
