Nature is calling – A way for students to deal with stress
In my project I explored the question, how could students stress be reduced by exploring nature with the mindset of scouting? The scout mindset in this context originates from the scout law that follows seven oaths/mottos that encourage an acceptance of others’ difference, aim to be kind and caring towards others around you, face hardship with optimism and get to know and care for nature. The projects’ goal was to raise awareness of scouting as a mindset of being in nature with friends and that the mindset of scouting can work as a method for dealing with stressful everyday life for students.
Inviting students with these posters to be part of my project.
In my project I have designed a workshop for stressed university students to experience the relaxing mindset of scouting, to explore and coexist with nature in an open-minded community. The scouting mindset can be summarised by the 7 Swedish scout law/morals/oath that are the following,
A Scout seeks their beliefs and respects those of others.
A scout is honest and trustworthy.
A scout is friendly and helpful.
A scout shows consideration and is a good companion.
A scout faces difficulties with a good mood.
A scout gets to know and care for nature.
A scout feels responsible for oneself and others.
These laws/morals/oaths act as a guideline for what I wanted to share in my project. The workshop which is the main touch point of the project was designed and facilitated by me, guiding student participants through a series of tasks to learn about the scouting mindset. The tasks had elements of team building, creating community, opening up to people, embracing nature, outdoor exploring knowledge and stress relieving reflections around a campfire.
